Crossposted from pi-lo: anxiousgeek's End Of Year Writing Blanket Box:

Total number of completed stories: hard to say, but around 35 I would guess, maybe more if I count the ones I wrote but didn't post, or the ones that are still in progress.

Total word count: AO3 says more than 80K, and even accounting for some weirdness that sounds about right.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? More than I would have guessed for some months (notably, February and June). Less than I'd've liked for others.

Rules: List the first line(s) of your last twenty stories. See if you find any patterns. Tag ten authors to pass it along.

I was tagged by @faejilly and it seemed like a fun way to celebrate both the Year of Lots of Writing and the fact that I just looked back at all my accounts to sum up my word counts for December, and I did a lot better than I feared.

I’m only doing ten, though. It already goes way back into August.

Writing Meme

Post the first lines of your current WIPs.

Fanfic: )

Original: )

This includes one line from an unposted chapter of a fic that's partly posted, and some totally unposted stories. It doesn't include most of my half-posted WIPs, or anything that's been technically abandoned. Or anything that's still in planning stages, or one story that only has a concept and a title.

Writing is hard, yo.

It's a good day for a Love meme!

My thread is here.

My voice is mostly back but it slips away when I talk even a little bit. I guess it's a good thing I'm home alone and have no cause to speak up.

Everything else is thankfully unremarkable.

I am more of an antishipper than a shipper, it's sort of a thing with me. And yet, here I am, managing to collect a series of 20 13 combinations of characters I like together, romantically.

1. Think of up to 20 ships you support.
2. List them using descriptions of the characters involved rather than their names.
3. Have your audience guess as many of the ships as they can.
4. Fandom hints will be given if asked in the comments.

Not all of them are Homestuck ships.

Not 20 ships, a few less. )

Since I hardly ever talk about shipping on DW, ask for as many hints as you like. Fandoms are live action TV, animation, comics, webcomics and books.

Nyan

Dear self:

It is not appropriate to spend any part of your Passover vacation writing, or thinking about writing, nyan cat fanfiction.

Love,

The clever part of your brain.

PS: You can just go on writing about teenage catgirls trolling the United Nations, though.

Meme!

Via [personal profile] marina, via [personal profile] nextian:

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you my trollships for it: who's my OTP, who's my favorite hatemance, who's my favorite BFF pair, and who's my favorite threesome.

Trollships are apparently this. I gotta say, "moirail" is one of those words I didn't know I needed.

For a liberal interpretation of my fandoms, my profile interests are usually fairly up to date. Then again, anything I mentioned under tags books, tv, movies etc. is fair game.
lea_hazel: Don't make me look up from my book (Basic: Reading)
I am tired of school and I have a headache, so let us have some awesome stuff.

For National Coming Out Day, FYLGBT had a post entitled Growing Up Gay in 666: Fred Phelps in Retrospect, which is fascinating and sort of terrifying, and well worth a read.

[personal profile] nextian made an awesome post called the female character Yenta meme where people recommend awesome stuff with awesome ladies to each other. Sharing the love is always cool, and it's interesting to see what people are into. I posted here even though I already have a reading list a mile long, because I am greedy.

As a sort of down payment, I'd like to throw out some names of stuff I like with awesome ladies in it, and say something about why they're awesome: Cut for list of epic rambling )

Hey, it turns out I have less stamina for this than I thought. Maybe I'll do more tomorrow, or on the weekend. On the upside? My headache is mostly gone.

Lots of great people are getting nice things they deserve in the anonymous love meme.

Meme Time!

lea_hazel: I am surrounded by tiny red hearts (Feel: Love)
Via [personal profile] shiegra and [personal profile] marina:

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments.

For example:

'One, Nine and Fifteen move in together. Is this a really bad idea?'
'Under what circumstances might Five and Seven fall in love?'
'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?'
'Write a drabble in which Three and Eleven FIGHT CRIME.' (...possibly not technically a question.)

3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

Top Five Meme

lea_hazel: I am surrounded by tiny red hearts (Feel: Love)
Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, books I might get around to writing one day, women in my fandoms, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs.

Concentration

Thing that prevented me from concentrating as I ought to, Cell-to-Organism edition: I have recaptured my on-again-off-again obsession with the planetary exploration drama that will never be, which is totally [personal profile] marina's fault just like everything else. I am formulating supporting cast to be added in season two and four. I have figured out what the opening theme should be. I have episode titles. I SHOULD BE THINKING OF TRIGLYCERIDES.

It is actually quite entertaining, and I wonder if anyone on [livejournal.com profile] isurrendered would mind if I made a DW sister community and posted my stuff there, since my LJ has been inactive since the early 19th century or thereabouts.
lea_hazel: Kermit: OMG YAY *flail* (Feel: OMGYAY)
So, approximately eleventy billion years ago (read: ten days) [personal profile] marina made up a new meme.

THE MEME
1. Comment to this post with "I surrender!" and I'll assign you the basis of some TV show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. Create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them
3. Add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that you want.
4. Post to your own journal.

[personal profile] marina gave me the prompt: "Scientific-mystery-of-the-week, any genre, set somewhere outside North America (including outer space or whatever)."

The End (no teaser image because I fail at photoshop), an extraterrestrial scientific exploration drama/psychological mystery:

I have mastered epic procrastination (this might have taken more than three hours). )

I had a lousy day, so have a picspam of nice things:

11 large-ish images )
lea_hazel: The Little Mermaid (Default)
I was somewhat pleased with the results, although they only represent a part of what I think about this complicated issue. There's a huge tension between cultural heritage and modernism, in my daily life as well as in the lives of many (most) people I know. Mostly it's a question I don't have an answer to. Definitely a miss on the modern ideas, as they are not monolithic and I am not singularly hostile to them as the test results suggest. I feel that the test writer has not completely hidden his bias against modern culture (as opposed to traditional).

Some parts of the test challenged me. I could not list my ethnicity as there was not one on the list with which I identified. Also, while many of the questions were suitably generic, a few of them emphasized Anglo, American or Anglo-American aspects that made it difficult for me to address them from my point of view. Overall I was fascinated, but couldn't shake the feeling that the quiz was coming from a point of view opposite to my own.
