Doe Eyes

I murdered microbiology this morning, so that's it for this round of exams. I don't have to think about them again until April. So for the rest of the week, until next term starts, this journal is all fandom, all the time.

For some reason, I started catching up on Fringe. It's... still Fringe? Ludicrous, but entertaining? Not quite what I'd like it to be, but somehow it still sucks me in? But, what I really wanted to note is that I just finished watching the Two Astrids episode and, oh em gee. No, I didn't weep like a child pr anything, but for real. Her enormous, terrifying doe eyes. They are freaking huge in her face. I've been clamoring for an Astrid episode for a while, and now that I've got it, I think it broke my brain.

Fringe S3

I lost track of Fringe earlier this year and now I'm starting to catch up. The flashback episode put me off (I thought it was a particularly poor effort, and inconsistent with canon, in addition to hitting a pet peeve of mine), but I'm giving it another chance. Now the next after episode has Read more... ) and I don't know what to think.

Although I will note again that this is a show in which OT3 may literally save the world.

Fannish 5

[community profile] fannish5: 5 (canon) couples that seemingly came out of nowhere:

Feferi/Sollux on Homestuck. I mean, I like them, and I was never a TA/AA shipper (I pale ship them), so it didn't bother me. But even looking back, I don't think there was so much as a hint before the kiss. And after, there wasn't much about them being matesprits, right up until the end.

Runaways, Veronica Mars, True Blood )

The good news: I got into the genetics lab I was coveting! Hurray for not setting back my degree by a whole year. Other good news: This week will be slightly less nightmarish than I had dreaded.

The bad news: I am in permanent time debt to second date exams, and taken along with all the other work I have to do, I won't have time to breathe until mid-April. So much for a light semester. Worse news: Chemistry lab reports will apparently devour my soul, and I may as well decide in advance to dedicate every Monday to them from now until the end of the semester.

The TV news: I'm catching up on Fringe and I get the feeling that someone on that show's writing team agrees with my theorem that everything can be solved with a threesome.

This post is an optical illusion. I am actually studying thermodynamics for my biochem quiz tomorrow, not posting.

So this week's [community profile] fannish5: Five of your favorite characters are going to a Halloween party. What costumes are they wearing?

My first thought was CrossGen characters, which is bizarre, because they went out of business about six years ago, so why would they pop up before more recent fandoms? Anyway, the thought of Giselle in a classic black witch's costume is too hilarious not to share. But for reals:

1. Kenzi from Lost Girl dresses as a harlequin clown, because there is nothing scarier than clowns.

2. Astrid from Fringe dresses in a gown and wimple which she did not buy in a Renn Faire, obviously, because she doesn't go to those, and whatever her loser ex told you to the contrary is nothing but a vindictive lie. She does look good in velvet, though.

3. Veronica Mars dresses as Carmen Sandiego FTW. You know she played the hell out of those games when she was twelve.

4. Jamie Madrox from X-Factor would dress as Cyclops if he wasn't afraid Cyke would toast him for his troubles. So he dresses like Indiana Jones. Not because Terry has a crush on Harrison Ford, though, because that would be weird.

5. Faith from BtVS has probably never been to a proper Halloween party in her life. She doesn't really get how the concept works and so Dawn makes her wear a classic purple Batgirl costume, which is truly a WTF choice. Halfway through the party she changes into one of Buffy's minidresses and they end up duking it out and spilling all the punch.

Fringe

So I'm all caught up on Fringe and I have some thoughts on Olivia. Yes, I know there are other characters. What of it?

In continuation of my previous post, I updated my profile to include a bunch of IM usernames, which are all access-locked since some of them have real name attributes. I am not online daily (usually not even weekly) but what the hell.

Still going through Fringe at a moderate pace. I'm about 80% through the first season and the first few hints about Spoilers? ) Seriously, the crack on this show. I can't even.

lea_hazel: The outlook is somewhat dismal (Feel: Crash and Burn)
So today I got up at tennish and spent four hours fighting to get a false antivirus off my computer. I very nearly gave up, thinking to 1) pay a tech to work his tech magic on it or 2) wipe and reinstall Windows. However, I weathered through, and as far as I can tell the computer is now fine. The best part is, it's almost 100% certainly my fault, and I'm supposed to be smart enough to know what not to double-click on. My favorite new computer resource website is Tweaking with Vishal.

My physics-related productivity is not awesome. Yesterday it took hours before I understood the solution to a simple diagram problem. I am dying to know why I require Lenz's law calculations and the like to understand how sinus rhythm powers the cardiovascular system.

I started watching Fringe last night. They showed it on TV for a while, but I was distracted and couldn't get into it. The reviews and the premise sounded meh, but then [personal profile] coffeeandink posted a link to this incredible vid and I became curious. Read: the girl is hot. I wanted to know whether she has that vague expression on her face all the time, or whether that was something the vidder singled out. This is about the expression I'm talking about, although I could probably find a better example. I'm still undecided, although it looks somewhat promising.

I sense great lack of productivity coming on.
