I spent a good few hours today separating and consolidating accounts. The aim is to eventually eliminate my dependence on Hotmail altogether, while still keeping a separation between things like Tumblr notifications vs. things like e-mails from my mother. Cats can't be put back in bags or anything, but from now on when I give someone my gmail for a beta or fic exchange or something it'll be tied closely to my fannish identity and not so much to my offline one. Which also allows me to go by Hazel exclusively among non-family English speaker. I like that.

So now I have AO3/tumblr/twitter/gmail/a number of game accounts all linked together. Gmail also provides a totally unnecessary G+ account, but more importantly a YouTube account. Good for sharing playlists.

Aside from the fact that it's super peppy and fun to listen to, this song delights me because the video has several gentlemen and a lady putting on elaborate drag, and well, it's about a man who loves his girlfriend. I mean, the lyrics are all about how amazing she is, how he loves all the little things she does, he thinks about her all the time, he likes doing little things for her, etc. etc.

Brains in Tabs

I had YouTube open in one tab and I opened Google in another to search for lyrics. As I was reading the words I failed to notice for some time that an embedded video had started autoplay and I was listening to two overlapping versions of the same song. Briefly and serendipidously it occurred to me that my external environment was finally starting to model my internal one.

Life

I've been driving, and working, and writing, and having uncomfortable conversations with the therapist. I don't really have the energy to scrutinize things but I want to post something, so have some Skunk Anasie:

lea_hazel: The Little Mermaid (Default)
Should I post:

  • A Glitch retrospective?

  • A spoiler-free review of Long Live the Queen?

  • A spoilerrific review?

  • Which fandoms are returning in the next few weeks that I'm super psyched for?

  • All about the four projects I'm doing this semester?

  • All about the fairy/ghost/vampire story I've started working out?

  • An overview of finished and unfinished fic I wrote in 2012?

  • A spammy post full of YouTube videos?
lea_hazel: A frowning white theater mask (Feel: Sad Face :()
I live in constant fear of becoming the bubble-dweller that my upbringing, and especially my schooling, encourages. Whenever I realize my own ignorance I feel a pang of horror followed by a flood of relief, because I remember all of a sudden that I haven't surrounded myself with people who never challenge each other.

In other news, Florence and the Machine:

In other-other news, I may be working on a ghost story. Sort of a mash-up of a lot of fairy tales and horror stories about innocent curious people discovering the dreadful secrets of their hosts. Hypothetically this is eventually supposed to be part of the backdrop of the novel I'm percolating.

Last night it rained. I think it might have been the first rain of the season.

Here, have a song:

Drag

This song may be a benevolent god's sole, precious gift to Israeli drag.

Plus, biblical references.

Fair warning: The song is from 1994, and the nineties were a very special decade. In so many ways.

I used to think I hated sentimental love songs bu hey, it turns out that part of my brain is just written in Hebrew or something. Here, have a sentimental love song:

Wow. I haven't listened to this song for a long time. Brings back memories.

Videospam

I felt like posting some Yehudit Ravitz videos. In my opinion she's one of the best Israeli singers, and one of the best singers in general.

7 videos under the cut )

Tempted to create a "videospam" tag, but I'll never use it again.

La La La La!

Yesterday I signed up for [community profile] purimgifts and now I am googling for chocolate krakens.

I will now post a bunch of "the Muppets sing the Beatles" videos, because I feel like it.

I am pretty excitable today!

Woo!

I'm in an oddly good mood, despite waking up too early for the weekend and not being able to fall back asleep.

First, have the Muppet Show theme:

Happy Jade! This alone makes me so glad I started reading Homestuck. Sadly it would seem most of the people who like Jade don't like Rose, and vice versa. Also, having new updates almost every day. *Scuttles off to read*

Mitochondrial calcium signaling and energy metabolism. I don't totally get it yet, but I'm working on it. Apparently it's high time I'm able to read and analyze articles like this, because I got a fairly aggressive e-mail from one of the program heads about presentations for next semester. This is the point in time where I have to send harassing e-mails to random strangers and ask them to sponsor me. Meep. :(

I have also applied for a bio-med internship and sent in a resume, which I'm not sure is up to scratch. I sort of signed up impulsively and then had to update it on the fly while also getting my assignments done on time. It's been a weird week.

I have a clementine. :D

Anyhow, it's Follow Friday so go ahead and follow: [community profile] build_a_world for all your worldbuilding needs, [community profile] writerstorm for general writerly brainstorming, [community profile] the_studio for other writerly matters, [community profile] pose_as_a_comm for when you finally start reading Homestuck OMG, and last but not least [community profile] capslock_dreamwidth for general madcap shenanigans.

So today I had a biochemistry quiz and it wasn't as bad as I was dreading, and tomorrow I have a physiology quiz that I may not have time to study for :( because I am so tired and behind on everything. As part of an exercise in not working myself to a crying frenzy, the only thing I absolutely have to do tonight is finish my Excel exercise and mail it in, and that's only because it's, um, due. And tomorrow afternoon I'll have Happy Fun Catch-Up Time where I do a bunch of work so I'll be ahead next week.

Gretchen Lieberum is an amazing jazz singer who I discovered in high school through a music-loving internet friend, listened to constantly in the army, and then pretty much forgot about. Brazen Girl is one of my favorite songs ever.

These dudes made a book and it sold better than Glenn Beck's for one day, and now he's all pissed at them. I looked up Glenn Beck and now I wish I hadn't.

This dude tries to talk to evangelical Christians who are sincerely worried about gay teen suicide, but still believe gayness is a sin. While respectful and forthcoming, he in no way cuts them any slack (or sugarcoats, as he puts it). It's a fascinating read.

Jack Chick says that Halloween is Satan's birthday. I thought it was like All Saints' Eve or something? *shrug*

I feel that LOLtapirs pretty much speak for themselves.

Check it out, this dude doctor of philosophy (!) does pretty much exactly what I'd like to do. With my life, I mean. Altered intracellular calcium signaling!

To do: Eat soup and watch Lost Girl.

Sometimes men see fit to dance around in gold sneakers and boxer shorts. Why? Perhaps they really want me to be happy. Or maybe they just like it.
lea_hazel: Kermit: OMG YAY *flail* (Feel: OMGYAY)
Woke up at 8 AM to make it to the market while the temperature is still bearable. This was a trying but wise move, and I came back with substantial loot: 4 rolls, 4 cucumbers, 4 carrots, 4 peaches and 2 mangoes. That oughta keep me until the test on Thursday. Another wise move: not showering till I got back.

My virus infection relapsed a bit last night at about 1 AM. If I see another relapse I might need a pro cleanup. D:

Bidding on [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan closed last night (my time) and my offer got a highest bid of 50$! OMG! Anyway, I have a test and then some medical chores, but starting Monday I'm collecting the items to box. Hopefully my recipient will e-mail me with demands/requests.

From YouTube: They call me heart-breaker.

From my feed: Hello Kitty, Goodbye Soul.
