So I mentioned the AfterEllen.com Hot 100 before, right? It's a yearly list of the hottest women, as voted by the site regulars, mostly queer women. I mean, probably a few straight votes sneak in there, and certainly there are a lot of queer women who are not site regulars, and don't vote. Still, the list is often a lot more interesting than the more "traditional" hot lists.

This is the first year I voted. My taste is a little eccentric. There are a bunch that I knew wouldn't get in. Often the top votes are the women who got the most buzz in the past year. So, for the sake of there being more pictures of hot women and ladies in the world, this is a picspam of some of my votes that didn't make it.

Aishwarya Rai! I will be the first to admit that I'm practically Bollywood-illiterate, and that I'd never heard of Aishwarya Rai before she was in The Mistress of Spices, even though she was already a huge star and had been in like 20-30 movies. Her charm, however, is overwhelming.

Clea DuVall! I first encountered her playing a shy, ignored high-schooler who became mystically invisible in an early episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I didn't learn to recognize her until I fell in love with But I'm a Cheerleader. Trufax: Clea DuVall is the number one reason why I still might seek out Carnivale on DVD, even though I missed out on it when the show was still alive.

Tilda Swinton! Another Very Serious Actor who's almost totally wasted on me, because apparently I only watch trash movies? There's no other explanation for why I've seen her playing an androgynous homicidal angel in Constantine -- probably one of the worst movies ever made! -- and I haven't seen Orlando. It must be so depressing to work your heart out and then have people in the street ask you if you're Jadis, the White Witch.

My usual policy with recognizing actors' names is if they've played gay or were in a superhero movie, I probably know who they are. Christina Cox played gay in Better Than Chocolate,
plus, she was super hot in Blood Ties which half-counts for the superhero thing. Ish. I wish she'd get her own show again. She's hot and awesome and she does stunts!

Tina Majorino! I am one of those people who becomes irrationally devoted to shows that have been off the screen for years, and Veronica Mars is one of those shows. I loved her as Mac and I still love her as Heather on Big Love, which is probably my second favorite show still on the air (after True Blood). Heather is a closeted LDS lesbian who's in love with her best friend, thereby fulfilling my policy.

I had a crush on Eliza Dushku until I watched Dollhouse, where Dichen Lachman totally stole her thunder. Sadly, the dynamic didn't replicate for the Hot 100 list. I'm still on record as saying Dichen Lachman was the hottest woman on DH, she was totally wasted on the show, and someone needs to offer her a better role, stat. I mean, unless my space exploration show gets picked up and she gets to play a snarky astrobiologist, but that hardly seems likely.

Oh man it took me AGES to figure out where I knew her from, when I watched Veronica Mars, after seeing her in Napoleon Dynamite.

I approve of this list. Also, it's amazing how DH killed my fondness for actors I had previously liked but made me obsessed with new-to-me actors, with Dichen Lachman atthe top of the list.
