lea_hazel: Don't make me look up from my book (Basic: Reading)

Yuletide 2010: There was one story from this collection that remained vivid in my mind even though I forgot to post about it.

Bloody is a crossover-fusion between Carmilla, a novel I have never read, and Bluebeard, a fairy tale I've been familiar with since adolescence. Several versions of which, in fact. It's a villain against villain story in which one is rooting for the more sympathetic villain, a bloody vengeful tale of lesbian vampires and serial wife-killers. I enjoyed Carmilla's character a lot, and something about the language was very evocative. I think the author probably used phrasing from the novel.

I might be intrigued enough to actually read Carmilla now, and my tolerance for pre-20C literature is at a notorious all-time low. At any rate, the book is now on my radar, so to speak.

Yuletide 2011: Basically I will be digging through this magical winter wonderland for the rest of the year.

beating at the fourth wall, going meta like only Community fic can. Since Community is a meta-heavy show, it makes perfect sense for their fics in general, and Yuletide fics in particular, to play with the line between show, reality and fandom. Right after the rest of the third season was deferred due to low numbers, fans became outraged and Troy and Abed started a blanket fort revolution.

OCTOPUS TALKING IN ALL CAPS is my second favorite cephalopod-related fanfic of the year. And bless Yuletide for letting me use that sentence.

The Tough Guide to Yuletide is my kind of parody. Even for someone who's never participated in Yuletide, except as a reader, everything is hilarious and almost everything is applicable. It's also exciting to read again in this highly entertaining format. If we get lucky, maybe there will be a trend of guidebook-style fics, like there used to be with care-and-feeding fics. Dang, there's a lot of meta humor in my recs.

#AnniesMove (Community) is an OT3 fic narrated by a perfect Annie of my perfect fanfic dreams. If I close my eyes I can imagine it going canon.

Housewarming is another Community Troy/Abed/Annie fic. It's porn with pie and oral sex and the suggestion that non-penetrative sex counts just as much and female POV and a little gender commentary and, it's basically the best kind of porn is what I'm saying.

A Very Oglaf Christmas. Hee! Basically I love funny porn and Oglaf fanfic reliably delivers it.

I think there were others so I might amend this from my laptop. There were definitely a lot of recs that I haven't gotten around to, or wasn't in the frame of mind to read.

Ladystuck: A girl, woman, and lady-filled archive of joy. Half the reason I haven't torn through this archive like a tornado is that I don't want it to run out too fast.

Grateful is a comic about Feferi which is a little hard to describe, even though the theme it handles is pretty common. It's about the trade off between safety and freedom, through the lens of the modern fantastic princess story. It's sort of a classic Homestuck story, sweet and disturbing and heavy with implied horror. The sort of story about Feferi that could have gone canon, if she was important enough (in canon) to warrant it.

Teacher is Redglare and Disciple fanart, and basically everything I have ever wanted for their relationship.

in my hand a tangled thread is a blackrom story that I find impossible to describe. It's not the interaction I would have imagined between Rose and Aradia, but that makes it doubly fabulous.

Do You See What I See is basically everything I could possibly want from a post-game Terezi, not to mention Rose. It shows that being a Seer is a high-stakes game, and when you fail, you do so spectacularly.

Around the watercooler (by [personal profile] alias_sqbr) is another of my favorite pieces of art. I guess it never really occurred to me before that Snowman would have been around the whole time that Scratch was raising the Handmaid. But, of course, it makes perfect sense that she would identify with her a little.

Man there is so much awesome fic left in that archive for me to relish, even leaving out the stuff that I probably wouldn't enjoy.

Eee, thanks! Any rec set that includes something by me is a good rec set, but some of these others look cool, will have to check them out!
