I want to be able to comment on this week's True Blood (and not just The Thing You Are Thinking Of, either) but I just can't. I am starting to have more Issues with this show than I can handle.
Based on comments in my LJ, it sounds like it sinks deeper and deeper into "pro-sex, anti-female sexuality" (male-gaze centric sex, women who have sex with one or two men are fine, women who have sex with lots of men die, men who have sex with lots of women live, etc.) And I think I've blocked most of the race issues that were getting attention a while back.
What mainly bothers me is what it has to say about women who have power over men, but yes, there's plenty of skeevy issues around sex and race. Basically there is the dynamic between a vampire and his maker, and all the makers so far are men but one. The female maker is obsessed with her "son" even though he hates her, in a very pathetic-yet-dangerous stalker way, she threatens his girlfriend and so forth. Then it gets a lot worse.
Also, one of my favorite characters has her life turned into an endless series of tragedies where everything good in her life is taken away from her. Then something good happens to her, or looks like it's going to happen to her, and then it's taken away.
The maker relationship is a lot different in the books. Lorena orders Bill to have sex with her, and he can't refuse. But Eric's maker also orders the same from him, and he has to as well. There are also a lot of vampires made by Queen Sophie Anne.

But at least Alcide is super fine, as fine as he was in the books.
