On the topic of werewolves and paranormal romance, I just stumbled upon this creative review of two popular PR series about women shapeshifters. It's pretty solidly informative. For example, it highlights something that's been bothering me for a while.
Of course both of them get raped. Of course. Because every female character has to experience rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, allegorical rape, or some moral facsimile of rape. Otherwise, how would we be able to tell that she has a vagina, not to mention a uterus and tubes and crap. It's a dangerous world out there, ladies. You got to watch out for yourselves.
Can't I have one heroine who doesn't get threatened with reproductive violence even once? Not all of them. Just one. One.
Thank Maude for ATLA. Katara and Toph and Suki saved my sanity points when I was writing this post. And for Gail Simone, who has yet to have a villain try to stick his hand down Wonder Woman's cleavage, at least as far as I've read. One can only hope it will continue in this vein for some time. I need a respite.
