So, I finally watched the trailed for Shyamalan's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender trailer. My thoughts:
Not happy about the casting, and I still think they're going to sacrifice most of the show's charm (humor, characterization, nuances) for the big, blow-out epic portion, but at least the design and effects are nice. I mean, it's probably going to be a box office hit whether it's any good or not.
I'm still debating on whether I should try to read Avatar fic or not. The fandom seems so... I don't know.
- A+ for special effects. No surprise there.
- A+ for design, especially set design. The Fire Nation ships look great, the Air Temple (whichever one it is) looks great, and the detailing on Aang's arrow tattoos is a nice addition.
- Picking a martial artist instead of an actor was probably for the best. However, we'll see what happens when he has to emote.
- The voiceover get's a D-. Functional, but aggravating, like most voiceovers.
- A Z for Sozin's Comet showing up in the title card, because it looped back all the way around from A. Seriously, that was awesome.
- Won't know what the supporting characters are like until they release an extended trailer, so I'll reserve judgment.
- Why not Dev Patel as Sokka? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!
