Cultural Identity Test
Friday, 9 January 2009 12:22I was somewhat pleased with the results, although they only represent a part of what I think about this complicated issue. There's a huge tension between cultural heritage and modernism, in my daily life as well as in the lives of many (most) people I know. Mostly it's a question I don't have an answer to. Definitely a miss on the modern ideas, as they are not monolithic and I am not singularly hostile to them as the test results suggest. I feel that the test writer has not completely hidden his bias against modern culture (as opposed to traditional).
Some parts of the test challenged me. I could not list my ethnicity as there was not one on the list with which I identified. Also, while many of the questions were suitably generic, a few of them emphasized Anglo, American or Anglo-American aspects that made it difficult for me to address them from my point of view. Overall I was fascinated, but couldn't shake the feeling that the quiz was coming from a point of view opposite to my own.
