In Season

Today there were oranges in the market. For the record, oranges are a winter fruit (at least here), they need a lot of rain, and they're not supposed to come into season for another couple of months at least. I got some, naturally, because they were a reasonable price. I still don't know if they're any good though.

I also got peaches, mangoes and carrots, and a big bag of cheap popsicles to stuff in the freezer, for when cold water isn't really cold enough. Sadly I forgot to get anything salty, but I do have two packs of crackers.

Figs are starting to come in, but they still look a little small and grungy, and I figure in a couple of weeks they'll be perfect. The fig season is very short. I remember when I was in junior high, my mother said the fig season is at the same time as Rosh Hashana for a reason, and she made chicken with figs, which was a tradition she made up on the spot. Anyway, the last few years (at least five?) they've been coming in mid-summer.

Probably other people aren't as fascinated by fruit as I am?

I love fruit! One of the many reasons I adore summer is because all the cheap strawberries come out to play.

I pretty much was going to say "I love fruit! One of my favourite parts of summer is the few weeks when our strawberries come in."

But apparently Manifesta read my mind and beat me to it by like days. >.>
