My mother has been planning a big family trip to NYC since about last fall. It was supposed to be in March, and it was supposed to be for her birthday (which is in January). But in February, she and my father both got very sick (and I was sick, as well). We had to put off the trip, much to the disappointment of everyone involved. We rescheduled to September, during the holidays, to allow the working members of the family to get as much time off as possible.
We're flying tonight.
I haven't really talked about it, much. I've been busy with the stress of preparing for the trip, on top of preparing for the holidays, a family birthday, and some work-related writing stuff. I've got a lot of things in motion, is my point.
A month from now, maybe everything will be settled, and I'll feel silly for being so anxious. Right now, though, it's hard for me to tell whether I'm more anxious or more excited. Flying is always stressful. Airports are stressful. A trans-Atlantic flight is much longer and more difficult, physically. I haven't been to the US since about 2015, and I remember the travel arrangements on that trip as being a nightmare, stress-wise.
But there is always excitement, too, of course. New York is a very cool city with lots of museums. We haven't had a big family trip in many years. My baby nephew will be there. I'm looking forward to the Natural History Museum, and I plan to go to one of the big bookstores and pick up some books that I've been looking forward to.
