My AO3 Stats

I periodically look at my AO3 stats and note trends, but I've never reliably documented those stats. I'm gonna try to change that. Let's see if it works.

My ten most popular fics, by hits, for all years (since I started posting to the AO3):

1. Deathless, with 3471 hits. A Skyrim fic with an extremely unusual pairing and premise. Compared to hits, relatively low kudos and other metrics (although data on bookmarks is conflicting). Probably mostly curiosity clicks. Posted in 2015.

2-5. The four parts of Rabbaroo Cafe, a Korrasami A/U series written for [community profile] purimgifts 2013. Femslash is always a big draw for my fics. Posted before they became canon. Hits range from 2981 for the first part, to 3334 for the third part. A fair number of bookmarks, so some of those hits are probably people rereading the part that they thought was cutest/most shippy. These stories had the top spot for hits, for a while, until Deathless caught up.

6. Winning the Lottery, a vaguely nihilistic BTVS femslash smut story, which was written for [community profile] femslash_kink in 2012. Haven't reread it in a while, so I don't remember if it's any good, but it's a major pairing in a major fandom. 2704 hits.

7. Trollslum, a collection of ficlets from a juggernaut fandom that's tagged with a number of different pairing tags, and has been online since 2011. 2620 hits, and I was palpably relieved when it dropped off the top spot.

8. Kept Waiting, Skyrim het rarepair porn, written for the Skyrim kink meme and uploaded in 2015. 2494 hits, and I think for a while I had a few subscriptions on it.

9-10. Hearth and Home and River Betty, the more overtly shippy of my Skyrim (again) khajiit femslash fics. Part of a series, all of which were responses to kmeme prompts. Posted in 2014-2015. 1922 and 1856 hits, respectively.

#11 is the ficlet collection from my old Tumblr account, which has some Dragon Age stuff on it.

The 2020 stats in isolation are a lot less interesting.

The top result is the ficlet collection for my current Tumblr, which was technically updated in May with a 7KPP ficlet (Yaling/Hamin). My top-clicked story that was all-new in 2020 is my [community profile] justmarriedexchange story, an original Regency romance short called Lady Braddock's Inheritance and the Ficus Lodge. Very gratifying, but we're still only talking about 171 hits. My Yuletide this year got 30 hits and, other than those, most of my output was for an obscure pairing in a very quiet tiny fandom.

The top hits result I have for a proper fanfic that was written and published all in 2020 is Open Windows with 116. It's a collection of ficlets written as responses to a Tumblr community's early quarantine month-long fic fest. I'm quite proud of them, and for a quiet fandom that's a great response.

But I got a total of 1670 hits in all of 2020. More than ever, I have to remember that I write for myself, and any reader response is meant to be icing on the cake -- otherwise I will stop writing.

The one thing I didn't account for:

I do have an anonymous WIP that I'm in the process of posting to a meme, and I have not yet started cross-posting it to the AO3, despite the fact that I've been writing this fic obsessively since September. what that means, I do not know.

I have 384,198 words archived on the AO3, which accounts for most (but not all) of the fic that I've written since 2011 or thereabouts. I did write some things anonymously that I chose not to claim, and I deleted at least one fic. I also have 11 user subscriptions, which I am extremely proud of, considering the fact that I've written over 100K cumulative words of a rarepair in a tiny fandom. I don't think there's a conclusion to this post, but it is interesting to note.
