TDOR: Transgender Day of Remembrance
Friday, 20 November 2009 15:38When I got up this morning I was planning to post about physics and unicorns and going to the marketplace, but then I opened my feed and today is Transgender Day of Remembrance.
TDOR is a day of mourning, a day to commemorate the many who died for no other reason than that others consider them subhuman. Transphobic violence is widespread and so is its justification.
Trans people face numerous types of discrimination, both legel and casual, from the straight world at large and also from within the queer community. This is not a day of pride, it's a day of mourning and reckoning for those who have been lost.
I could write much more and link much more, but I'll leave it at that.
