AARGH Infinite Chores!
Wednesday, 23 September 2009 13:05I have infinite chores to complete before I leave Friday morning. I took today off, but as per usual, when I'm not at work I can't get moving until well past noon. Not everything is going to get done; I procrastinated badly and will only get a renewal of one of my prescriptions after I return. It's not awful, but not great. Just this second I resigned myself to the fact that, given the typical schedules of the computer techs I patronize, I will not manage to get my laptop cleaned before I leave. It heats up and gets BSODs, and occasionally when I turn it on the sound or the keyboard won't work.
Still, I have a laundry list of chores, including laundry (tonight, since that can be done after ordinary business hours) and the suitcase I want to use is at my parents' house since, holy hell, I am not packing a giant duffel ever again, especially not when I'm taking my computer in a backpack. Two backpacks is stupid.
I made a list. Lists are useful, but sure to make me feel incompetent and under-accomplished. No matter how many items I cross off, I can never convince myself that I'm doing any better than just breaking even. My finances are not great, especially since I have two months of rent due just before I leave. Lucky me. I don't know why I feel so pessimistic right now, but I hope it goes away soon. A long flight and a couple of hours of layover at Heathrow are not going to be improved by being in a foul mood.
ETA: I found something happy-making. Kate Harding's review of Drop Dead Diva makes note of something I mentioned to her in a thread on her blog about the show. It's also an observation that I think is very important, so I'm glad twice.
