Women to Watch at SDCC...
Saturday, 25 July 2009 18:447 Women to Watch at Comic-Con. O RLY?
All due respect to people like Sigourney Weaver (really!) but my list of "women to watch" at Comic-Con would include women, who, you know, work in comics. I wouldn't list someone like Gail Simone, because she's actually pretty well established by now, so she doesn't really fit my qualification of someone "to watch". I would list Nicola Scott, who works with her on Secret Six, maybe.
Probably at the top of my list is Amy Reeder Hadley, whose most recent book Madame Xanadu I regretfully dropped because the plot was plodding along, despite phenomenal art. I actually considered keeping it just because the art was so appealing, something that I hardly ever do. It's really a shame, because I wanted to like MX so much, and in some ways it was exactly what I wanted it to be, but it was a very frustrating book to read.
I can't think of anyone else to list at this point. Oh! Amanda Conner? She's been drawing for a long time, but starting an ongoing series (Power Girl) is a big deal.
