kink memes tend to inspire gen when they're for a source where no other fic has yet been written. Like, with Star Trek or First Class, after hte movie the kink meme was the main place people went for fic, and so ALL the fic they wanted to read/write got created for that, and much of it was gen.
with things like SPN, there's so much fic already and other venues for fic, that the kink meme tends to be much more specialized.
